Ordinary Sunday

"Sometimes I have loved the peacefulness of an ordinary Sunday. It is like standing in a newly planted garden after a warm rain. You can feel the silent and invisible life."
Marilynne Robinson, Gilead

I love this passage and bookmarked it to share. But it feels disingenuous not to add the confession that I did NOT live this peacefulness for my Sunday. It started fine but as the afternoon wore on (and wore thin) I felt restless and angsty and hollow. My "newly planted garden after a warm rain" was muddy and messy and some of it might have splashed onto my family while I wrestled with the pesky, knotty weeds. But tomorrow is another day, which is the other message I take from Sundays. Renewal. New week, new start.

Ready, set, go.
